Transforming the Way We Travel

How can we travel better? How can we change the way we experience places? How does it touch our entire life and all our choices?

Conscious, slow nature connection experiences have powerful potential to connect to a place differently, to help to understand our impact and role and to support destinations with activities that can be tailored to low and shoulder seasons to offer variety and help to advocate avoiding the rush of peak periods.

I am discussing these and similar points in my latest guest article published in the Low Season Traveller magazine with the title: Transforming the Way We Travel; How Nature and Forest Therapy Offers a Deeper Connection in Low Season.

6th International Congress ISFT Forest and its Potential for Health

September 2024, Lithuania

I had the absolute privilege and pleasure to not only participate but also present in Druskininkai, Lithuania at the 6th International Congress ISFT. I  shared my views and experiences based on my long-standing tourism background and my forest therapy work in the framework of: Regenerating People and Planet – an intersection of tourism and nature connection practices.

In my presentation I explored the overarching benefits of nature and forest therapy in responsible tourism and destination development. Furthermore, I reviewed how this emerging well-being trend has the potential to connect people and planet while visiting and exploring outdoor places.

Besides this exciting opportunity to share this important work of mine, I also had the fantastic opportunity to engage with other practitioners in diverse fields. Learning about how the healing power of nature and forest is explored and engaged in various ways was truly fascinating.

Program Series to Learn Simple Tools

Nature is all around us, even in urban settings, offering a source of healing that we can tap into, even in city parks. Our 6-session forest bathing series at Wenkenpark in Riehen, BS, in the spring of 2024, was a sensory journey towards greater health, presence, and fulfillment.

By connecting with our surroundings through slow, mindful interaction and sensory exploration, we discovered easy, accessible practices to find peace of mind, reduce stress, boost creativity, and enhance focus and vitality. These nature-based practices are readily available anytime, anywhere, and can be incorporated into daily routines—whether at work, on the go, or amidst everyday tasks. A brief pause for these effortless reflections can transform your mindset and day, fostering balance and strengthening mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

While committing to attend all 6 sessions might seem demanding, it is a small investment for empowering your life and achieving a holistic sense of health and wellness.

First ever nature therapy session in Antarctica!

In December 2023, I had the privilege and opportunity to introduce nature therapy to busy business travelers during their trip in Antarctica. Our sensory journey connecting to the surroundings and nature all around offered the opportunity for relaxation, stress management and a new way of exploring the 7th continent.

I am extremely content and proud to be the first nature therapy guide to introduce this practice in Antarctica, on the most remote and coldest part of the planet! This marks the historical moment when nature therapy has become available to bring its mental and physical health benefits to all 7 continents! What an achievement and joy!

In our everyday running life even a short, gently guided quiet time encouraging conscious presence brings balance. A different way to explore any destination, to truly immerse into what is around. As a wellbeing tool and also as a new, one-of-a-kind travel experience, nature therapy offers a brand new way to immerse into any destination. Relaxation and peace even during a holiday or a business trip, regardless if in warm or cold corner of the world. A feedback from a participant: “I always have words to talk about anything, but now I am speechless after this experience”.

I look forward to introducing relaxation techniques in cold, winter conditions to many more. It does not matter what season or what weather we are in, there are always ways to rest and restore.

Get in touch if you are interested, I hope to meet you soon on snow and ice!

Relax in the middle of the city – A collaboration with Gsünder Basel

One of these fresh autumn mornings recently, I was invited to guide 7 wonderful ladies through a morning forest bathing and relaxation session in the heart of Basel. We experienced how it is possible to find ways for stress management, rest and some me-time in the dark, in the sunrise, with consciously connecting with a city park. Nature is all around us after all!

Before, after or even during a busy day, there is always an opportunity to find balance in a relatively short time by inviting nature to help us. Easy practices can be learned or I would rather say re-learned to support our mental and physical health in our running, modern lifestyle. Managing stress with a few quiet and slow moments, even in the heart of the city in a park (!), is possible and easily available for everyone.

As part of their yearly get together and educational workshop I have had the privilege to introduce the health benefits and the practice of forest and nature therapy to amazing course leaders, trainers and team members of Gsünder Basel.

Thank you for being there! I look forward to our future collaboration.
